If i don’t see it, can it exist?

Here is a thought i’ve seen repeated by churched people over and over again:
Because i haven’t seen other churches do so-and-so, it does not exist.
Is there anything fundamentally incorrect with that statement? if so, what?
If there is not anything wrong, how do you support that statement?
